Anna Katharina Valayil is an Indian musician in the Independent Music as well as Playback Industry (Malayalam[1] and Tamil). Valayil received recognition after singing her global hit single Appangal Embadum for the National award-winning Malayalam movie Ustad Hotel. Anna Katharina a.k.a. Tribemama is an Electro Pop/ Afro Funk Artist from Kerala. Even though her original name is Ann Varghese, she is popularly known by her stage name, Anna Katharina Valayil.
Valayil, also being a versatile songwriter, expressively verses her thoughts and ideologies, and flaunts her feelings across her songs vibrantly. She has penned down lyrics for all her songs and has composed them beautifully bringing life to her words.
Life[edit]
She was born in Kerala and later moved to Nigeria, Africa where she spent a few years. Valayil started singing right from her childhood. She has always had that western style with her voice. She holds a Bachelors's degree from St.Theresa's College, Cochin. After which she flew to Australia to pursue her studies as a Pilot from the famous Flying school Moorabbin Aviation Services. She also completed her Master's in Media Studies from Swinburne University. Valayil hails from a reputed family in Kottayam, and is married to Mr. Ranjesh Chandy, a business man. She has two young daughters and is currently settled in Kottayam.

Made her singing debut in 2012, she became an overnight sensation after rendering her voice for the songs - Appangal Embadum and Mel Mel Mel of 2012 movie - Ustad Hotel, released the same year.
Being raised in Nigeria, Africa, she discovered her attraction towards Pop, Jazz and Reggae genres, which made a revolutionary influence within her. Later, she spent three years in South Australia to realize a strong connection with the three indigenous countries that has been politically and socially divided. Her music is a spiritual journey with a message to remain Sovereign through political and social whirlpool of chaos all around the world. Her original compositions follow Electro & Alternative Pop genres and have gained critical acclaim in the Indie Music scene.
She has collaborated with renowned artists Gopi Sundar (Music Director), Santhosh Chandran (Guitarist) for her debut music video 'Honey Bee' and Marthyan (Rapper).
She has received award for the Best Debut Artist at the Confident group GMMA Award - 2013, and was nominated for the Best Debutante Singer at the SIIMA Awards - 2013. She has also received other awards namely, Favorite New Voice at Mollywood Nakshatra and Best Singer Female at Kochi Times Film Award in 2013 and 2012 respectively.
Currently she is working on her upcoming album ‘ Tribemama Soul’ which is to be released in the year 2020.
